The Tavern Arcade ("we", "us", "the Site") is a free browser games website at tavernarcade.com. This policy explains what information is collected when you visit, why it is collected, who else receives it, and what choices you have. We do not require accounts, logins or sign-ups to play.

1. Who we are
The Tavern Arcade is an independent, hobbyist game site that publishes browser-playable games. For the purposes of the UK/EU General Data Protection Regulation, The Tavern Arcade is the data controller for the limited personal information described in this policy.
You can reach us at any time at tavernentertainmentgames@gmail.com.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you give us voluntarily
- Display name. If you type a name into the "Enter Name" box, it is stored in your browser and sent to our leaderboard provider so your score can appear on a public leaderboard. Please do not use your real full name, email address or any other identifying detail — pick a nickname.
- Game scores. When you play a game with a leaderboard, your score and chosen display name are submitted to the leaderboard service.
- Email correspondence. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and we keep it only as long as needed to answer you.
2.2 Information collected automatically
Like nearly all websites, our hosting provider and our advertising and analytics partners may automatically receive technical information when you load a page, including:
- IP address (used, among other things, to approximate your country for ad and legal purposes)
- Browser type and version, operating system and device type
- Screen size and language settings
- Referring page and pages viewed on this site, with date and time
- Cookie identifiers and similar advertising identifiers
We do not sell this information, and we do not attempt to identify individual visitors from it.
2.3 What we do not collect
- We do not require an account, password, or email address to play.
- We do not ask for or process payment card details. Voluntary donations, if any, are made in cryptocurrency directly between your own wallet and the published address; we never see your wallet credentials.
- We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal data such as health, biometric, religious or political information.
3. Browser storage we use
The Site itself uses your browser's local storage (not cookies) to remember your preferences so the arcade looks and behaves the way you left it. This data stays on your device, is not transmitted to us, and can be cleared at any time from your browser settings.
| What is stored | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Display name | Pre-fills your leaderboard name so you do not retype it | Until you clear it or clear site data |
| Theme, avatar, font size and zoom | Remembers your chosen arcade appearance | Until cleared |
| Sound / music / effects settings | Remembers whether audio and visual effects are on | Until cleared |
| Game progress and high scores saved by individual games | Lets you resume a game where you left off | Until cleared |
| Advertising cookies set by Google and its partners | Ad delivery, frequency capping, measurement — see section 5 | Set by the provider; see their policies |
To remove everything the Site has stored: open your browser settings, find "Cookies and site data" (or "Privacy"), and clear data for tavernarcade.com. Full detail is in our Cookie Policy.
4. How we use information
- To display the games and let you play them
- To show your chosen name and score on public leaderboards
- To remember your settings between visits
- To display advertising that keeps the site free
- To understand, in aggregate, which games are popular so we know what to build next
- To keep the site secure and detect abuse or fraudulent score submissions
- To reply to messages you send us
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own independent marketing.
5. Advertising & Google AdSense
The short version: this site is free because it shows ads served by Google. Google and its partners use cookies to serve those ads, and you can turn personalized advertising off at any time using the links below.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info, or for European users at youronlinechoices.eu.
- Google's own handling of data from sites that use its services is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
- Some third-party vendors on this site may also use cookies to serve ads. You can review the full list of ad technology providers and manage your choices through the consent prompt shown on this site.
Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, a consent message is shown before non-essential cookies are set, in line with Google's EU User Consent Policy and the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework. You can accept, reject, or configure your choices, and you can change your decision at any time by clearing site data and reloading the page or by using the privacy/consent link where one is shown.
6. Third-party services
We keep third parties to a minimum. The services below may receive some of the technical information described in section 2.2. Each operates under its own privacy policy, which we encourage you to read.
| Service | What it does here | Their policy |
|---|---|---|
| Google AdSense | Serves the advertising that funds the site | policies.google.com/privacy |
| Google Fonts | Delivers the retro typefaces used across the site | policies.google.com/privacy |
| LootLocker | Stores and returns public leaderboard entries (display name + score) via a guest session | lootlocker.com/privacy-policy |
| rss2json | Converts a public gaming-news RSS feed for the news ticker | rss2json.com |
The Site may also link out to external websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of sites we do not operate.
7. Legal bases for processing (GDPR)
- Consent — for non-essential and advertising cookies, and for personalized advertising where consent is required.
- Legitimate interests — for keeping the site secure, preventing abuse of leaderboards, and understanding aggregate usage. We balance these interests against your rights and use the least intrusive means available.
- Performance of a service you request — for storing and displaying a leaderboard entry you chose to submit.
8. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct information that is inaccurate
- Request deletion of your information
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent you previously gave, at any time
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
Because we do not operate accounts, the fastest self-service options are:
- Remove your local data: clear site data for tavernarcade.com in your browser.
- Remove a leaderboard entry: email us the display name and the game, and we will remove it.
- Turn off personalized ads: use the Google Ads Settings link in section 5.
To exercise any right, email tavernentertainmentgames@gmail.com. We aim to respond within 30 days. We may ask for information to verify a request, but only what is necessary.
9. US state privacy rights
If you are a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia or another US state with comprehensive privacy legislation, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.
We do not sell personal information for money. However, the use of advertising cookies described in section 5 may be treated as "sharing" for targeted advertising under some state laws. You can opt out by turning off personalized ads at Google Ads Settings, by using the DAA opt-out tool, or by enabling a Global Privacy Control signal in your browser, which we honour where technically supported. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
10. Children's privacy
This site is intended for a general audience aged 13 and over (16 and over in parts of the EEA where that is the applicable age of digital consent). It is not directed to children under those ages, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to us — for example, a real name submitted to a leaderboard — please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
11. Data retention
- Local browser data stays on your device until you clear it.
- Leaderboard entries are kept while the leaderboard is live, or until you ask us to remove one.
- Email correspondence is kept for up to 24 months, then deleted.
- Advertising data is retained by Google according to its own retention schedule, described in Google's privacy policy.
12. Security
The Site is served over HTTPS. We hold very little personal information in the first place, which is the strongest protection we can offer. That said, no method of transmission or storage on the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. International data transfers
Our hosting and third-party providers may process data on servers located outside your country, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred out of the EEA or UK, our providers rely on recognised transfer mechanisms such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes or as the law requires. The "Last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version. Material changes will be highlighted on the homepage. Continuing to use the Site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
